'Protect' Fabric Enhancer
It’s ‘good-bio’ to sore skin

It’s the stuff of (domestic) science fiction: clothes that repel dirt, calm sensitive skin and even kill bacteria – and it’s set to be a hit in 2013 at Tesco.
In a move that marks the company’s most significant move into date, working closely with the supermarket, boffins at a Hertfordshire biotechnology firm, Intelligent Fabric Technologies, have turned their talents from high-performance sportswear to household essentials. Together they have developed a formula that can be washed into fabrics in an ordinary washing machine.
The liquid uses the science of polymers – very long compounds of molecules found in plastics – but does not make fabric feel stiff.
And exclusive to Tesco, the new fabric conditioner range aptly named ‘Protect’ will include three products:
‘PROTECT Softer For Longer™’: the first fabric conditioner to soften your skin, as well as the clothing itself. The multi-action technology combines natural skin moisturisers designed to soften clothes and soothe dry, sensitive or irritated skin. It is dermatologically approved.
‘PROTECT Newer For Longer™’: utilises dirt and grime repelling technology, which makes clothes more resistant to staining without affecting their natural softness. It is also dermatologically tested and approved as suitable for sensitive skin.
Currently being trialled, a third liquid that kills odour causing bacteria in washing that don’t vanish at today’s low temperature cycles and which make machines smell.
“It’s our job to uncover new and revolutionary technologies which enhance our existing products. So, when customer feedback showed that common bugbears associated with laundry care included the inability to remove stains off clothes and skin irritations it was a no-brainer for us to look at addressing these issues and offer customers an alternative product."
